Summer 2013

Although from june to september our town in really crowded and high temperatures make it difficult to totally appreciate it, Venice can be discovered and loved in summer with the right tips from who lives here.

In addition to escape with us from crowds whenever possible during the day, we will suggest you some ideas to make your holiday unique, in this special season that summer is, with its parfumes and sensations that seem to come out shy when sun goes down, by walking through the safe alleys, or maybe at the beach.

Summer events in town

Redentore feast-day, July 20

If you want to see Venice in its maximum of beauty, plan your holidays in order to be here during the celebrations for the healing from the plague of 1576 that killed more than 50000 people, that take place every year, every 3rd sunday of july when Holy Mass is held at the presence of the Patriarch, followed by a religious procession.
But the special moment of the festivity takes place on Saturday night: with the unbeatable backdrop of Saint Mark's Basin, a play of lights and reflections produce akaleidoscope of colours with the silhouetted spires, domes and bell towers of the city behind.

This is the moment in which venetian families and boats with young ones invade St. Mark's basin and wait the fireworks with songs, food and good wine.

It's a celebration that takes place since the XVI century , one of the most important days of the year when religion and fiestas meet, creating one of the most spectacular events of the world.

Still after 400 years Venetians create a bridge of boats that remains some days, in order to permit to pilgrims to reach during Sunday the Church of Redentore built by Andrea Palladio in the Giudecca island on direct order of the Doge to give grace for the end of plague.

If you want to enjoy this event, there are many different ways: from the expensive terrazzas of the hotels, from the streets and by gondola, or maybe with your venetian friends into a big boat.

In any case, it will be just fabulous to be here!

Historical Regatta

Historical Regatta - Sunday September 1st, 2013

Scores of typically 16th century-style boats with gondoliers in period costume carry the Doge, the Doge's wife and all the highest ranking Venetian officials up the Grand Canal in a brightly coloured parade. An unforgettable sight and a true reconstruction of the glorious past of one of most the powerful and influential Maritime Republics in the Mediterranean. The Regata Storica dates back centuries, probably as far back as the mid thirteenth century when the Serenissima needed to train the crews of its huge navy in the art of rowing.

You can enjoy it from many sides of the Grand Canal, unless you want to rent a Palace floor to watch it, but plan it in advance!
