FAITH  in the art of Venice

Church of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Scuola Grande di San Rocco - abt 3hrs

Friar's Church with the cloisters of the Franciscan monks links the architectural interest for its Gothic forms to its rich patrimony of works of art: foremost among them are Titian's Assumption of the Virgin and the Pesaro Madonna (the tradition says that the great painted was buried underneath the paving of this church), Giovanni Bellini's exquisite triptych, Donatello's St. John the Baptist and many others.

Behind the Church, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco - called the Sistin Chapel of Venice - accueils a great amount of paintings of Jacopo Robusti, called Tintoretto, who decorated the Scuola with episodes of Old and New Testament between 1564 and 1587, in a touching itinerary of faith that reaches the edge with the stories of the Passion of Christ.
