Water-buses at the Accademia platfoms GALLERIES  OF THE ACADEMY

This unique museum is a must-see for anyone who loves ancient art.

The buildings of the Gothic church of Santa Maria della Carità and the Scuola della Carità have been adapted to house the Galleries of the Academy, the most prestigious venetian picture gallery. The rooms are arranged in chronological order from the 13th to the 18th century, collecting masterpieces of artists as Giovanni and Gentile Bellini, Vittore Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian, Paolo Veronese, Jacopo Tintoretto, Giambattista Tiepolo and many others.

Housed in the rooms of Ca’ Rezzonico, comprises collections of furniture, sculptures and paintings of the 18th century in Venice, the decadence period that saw the maximum luxury in town. It provides the insight of patrician society immediatly before the invasion of Napoleon.

Overlooking the Grand Canal, of particular note are the frescoes of Giambattista Tiepolo and the decoration of the family villa in Zianigo from his son Giandomenico, two Canaletto views and the old pharmacy, brought intact from an ancient one in Campo San Stin.

PEGGY GUGGENHEIM COLLECTION

Palazzo Venier dei Leoni facing the Grand Canal was bought from Benjamin Guggenheim's daughter Peggy, who was so in love with Venice to decide to be buried here, in the garden with her beloved dogs.

The art collection allows the visitor to enjoy the view of masterpieces of XX century artistssuch as Picasso, Braque, Brancusi, Duchamp, Delaunay, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Chagall, Klee, de Chirico, Ernst, Miṛ, Magritte, Daĺ and Jackson Pollock.

The view from the canal is really amazing, and a walk in Dorsoduro quay is extremely suggestive.
